Backyardigans

This has nothing to do with the TV show. If you do not know what I am talking about, then you obviously do not watch enough Treehouse!

Actually, it’s the name of a new page on my blog. As you see along the top, there is a link. Please be sure to check it out and see what Sarah and I have started.

The picture and post have nothing in common. I took this picture this evening and decided to post it!

Improved… But Certainly Not New

Most of you know that I like books. I like holding them, buying them, flipping through them, smelling them, and of course, reading them! The book that has impacted me the most in my life is the Bible.

ESV Study BibleThis fall I am very excited for a new Bible that is coming out. Well, it’s not new at the core – it’s still the Bible. However what surrounds the text is new. Crossway Publishers is near completion of their first English Standard Version (ESV) Study Bible. To find out more about it, click here. For those unaware of what a Study Bible is, it is essentially the core text of the Bible surrounded by commentaries, maps, charts, and insights by some of the best Biblical scholars in the world. It is like reading your Bible in your favourite chair surrounded by the smartest people in the world with regards to the Bible. Since the ESV translation of the Bible came out, they have not put out a Study Bible like this. I am a huge fan of the ESV translation (for its authenticity to the original language while still maintaining fluid reading) and I have been waiting for this Study Bible for a couple of years. This fall is going to be very exciting!

A Cacophony of Items

When I post to my blog, I generally stick to one item at a time. I believe blogs are more closely related to magazines than to novels. With this post, it is going to be three quick updates on my life:

  1. Vader is gone. With bittersweetness, I said goodbye to my first VW. It finally sold this weekend. I am excited for the money my family will save monthly, and the burden it no longer is on my father-in-law (Thanks Pap for selling it for me!), but am sad to see it go. It ate up a lot of my money and time, neither of which I will get back. But it was fun while it lasted. A day will come when I will once again be a VW owner. Just not today.
  2. As inspired by Ben’s blog, I have created a “Sermons” page. This is a page where I will post links to the audio of my sermons. Please feel free to listen, comment, and question.
  3. Along the theme of promoting other blogs, my brother-in-law (and favourite boss!) Kent has finally joined the blogosphere community. Let’s all welcome him by visiting his page
  4. And finally, I would like to thank everyone who visits this blog. As you can see on the right-side of the page, we have surpassed 1000 visits to the site. I will continue to post as frequently as I have something worthwhile to post.

Fishing on the Columbia River

Fishing on the Columbia River

With the move to the West Kootenays, one of the things I was looking forward to doing was getting back into fishing. As of April 1st, I purchased by annual license and have been doing just that. Unfortunately, nothing yet, but the season is early and there is a lot more time!

Tonight Kent and I were out and I decided to take a short break to snap some photos. Here is one of my favourites from the evening. Hopefully I will post more of these as I am out casting away.
